what’s in a name?

Names are special.

We have always asked the Lord to give us names for our children.  We figured that if He already knew them before the foundation of the earth, then He must have named them too.  So we ask Him.

All our children’s names have such special meaning and stories behind how we got to them.  When God added Harper to our adoption (we had only committed to adopting Hailee), we had absolutely no idea what her name would be.  We prayed for a long time, but nothing really came to us.

Until one day I received an e-mail from a blog friend whom I had never met.  She simply said that she felt from the Lord that “this child would make beautiful music for the Lord, that she would love to sing and that every song she sings would be a beautiful offering to her Father in heaven.”

We held the word given to us in our hearts, and kept it before the Lord.

Very soon after that…He whispered her name to our hearts, “Harper.”

“Player of the harp.”

Lover of music.

God could not have named this angel more perfectly.  From the time she wakes up until the time she falls into bed at night, she sings, and sings, and sings.

All the world’s coffee table’s her stage. And she absolutely loves it.  As you can tell.
