No matter how many years pass and no matter how long I am connected in the adoption community, I will never, ever get used to seeing photos of children who need families and reading about older children who literally beg for a family to come for them. And the teenagers who age out because time ran out to find a family?! It’s absolutely heartbreaking!

Every now and then a story crosses my path that leaves a huge lump in my throat and my heart so burdened. They’re the pleas of children who ache for families of their own. The stories of beautiful children who have seen so many of their friends adopted, but no one comes for them. Oh, the hurt and the longing at such a tender age! They’re boys and girls the same ages as my own children and, well, I just cannot even imagine.

Last night I read about Amon. A ten year old boy who has been waiting for years for a family. Years! My friend, Angie, met Amon two years ago at a Lifeline camp and fell in love with him. She and others have advocated tirelessly for him, and still he waits. Yes, he’s just one child in an overwhelming crisis that is the plight of the orphan.

But he is one child who matters so, so much. The greatest desire of this little guy’s heart is to be chosen by a family.

Angie shared this about Amon:

“Our guide prepared me that I would meet a wonderful young boy who was desperate for a family. She says that every time she visits his orphanage, he sees her and asks when his mama and daddy are coming for him. She says they call him the ‘Monkey King’ (from a famous cartoon in China). It was obvious that he is a special boy to her, and he quickly stole my heart as well. Amon is full of laughter! He played for a long time with my cell phone and was fascinated with the camera. He must have taken over 100 pictures! He was playful and so fun! He is a cuddler and very independent. You could easily see that he will do what it takes to accomplish whatever he sets his mind to. Amon lit up every time he saw me. He raced over to hold my hand at each opportunity. When the doctors brought him his new leg brace, he screamed and cried till the nannies sent for me. His pain of not having a mother of his own was so evident to me. His tibia is quite short, and he requires a prosthesis and lift to level out his leg length, however, he has great mobility. This little guy will not let something as minor as a short leg stop him! He has been in care since he was 17 months old and I feel he would thrive in a loving, patient and committed family! I would joyfully speak to anyone who is considering this boy as their son. You would be incredibly blessed for this treasure to call you Mama!”

Isn’t he just precious?

Amon is described as a quick and interested learner who has a good memory. His file states that his language development is good and that he can express himself clearly. Amon is said to be outgoing, liking to play games with other children. He is stated to be independent and attentive in class.

A camp worker shared, “Amon was so sweet to a staff member when we sat down to eat lunch, he saw she wasn’t sitting and found a chair and brought her to it! When he saw that she was out of water he tried to give her some of his! Love him.”

He is sweet, so adorable, and begging for someone to love him.
